Lithuanian judges support the Polish judges in their aim to preserve the independence of the judiciary.
Independence of the judiciary is an essential guarantee of human rights, and any attempt to undermine that independence threatens the common space of the European Union which is based on mutual trust amongst the courts. Any interference with the independence of the judiciary is a threat to democracy and the rule of law, and therefore to us all. The quest for political power to influence the judiciary undermines fundamental values.
